MXC sixth, WXC eighth in regional preseason poll

WALNUT CREEK – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) was well represented in both the men’s and women’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USFCCAA) 2008 Division II preseason polls that were released on Tuesday. A total of five men’s and six women’s teams were ranked amongst the West Region’s Top 10, respectively. Defending CCAA and West Region champion Chico State was ranked No. 1, while UC San Diego was No. 3, Cal State Stanislaus No. 6, Humboldt State No. 7 and San Francisco State No. 10 On the women’s side, Cal State L.A., which captured the 2007 CCAA Championships was ranked No. 2. Chico State was third and UC San Diego fourth. Cal State Stanislaus, San Francisco State and Cal State San Bernardino were eighth through 10th, respectively. Seattle Pacific was the region’s top-ranked women’s team. Humboldt State will be the first CCAA member to open its 2008 season when it competes in the Alaska Invitational in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Thursday.
