Cal State Stanislaus junior forward Lisa Garcia has turned her breakout season into a regional accolade as she was recognized by the Sports Information Directors in the West on Tuesday.

Garcia, who led the CCAA regular season in scoring with 11 goals, was named to the Daktronics All-Region second team. Garcia is a junior from Manteca. She set a new CSUS single-season record in goals in a season and tied for points in a season with 27.

Garcia is the second Warrior to make the Daktronics list in its second season of awarding soccer players in Division II. Last year, Melissa Phillips was a first-team selection.

Cal State LA forward Liz Franco has been tabbed as the 2009 Daktronics/NCAA Division II West Region Player of the Year. The CCAA’s Most Valuable Offensive Player and first-team all-conference selection leads the CCAA in scoring with 43 points on 13 goals and 17 assists that includes six game-winning goals.

Along with first-team all-Region teammates Amanda Matthews (midfielder), Alex Conley (forward) and Caroline Hanna (defender), CSULA won its first CCAA Championship and is 17-2-2.

Completing the first team are goalie Kristin Armstrong (UCSD), midfielders Ali Sward (Chico State), Anne Wethe (UCSD) and Kelsey Jenkins (Seattle Pacific), forwards Jocelyn Charette (Seattle Pacific) and Jessica Murphy (Cal State Dominguez Hills) and defenders Lindsay Catton (Sonoma State), Taylor Sawyer (Seattle Pacific) and Paige Peele (Cal State Dominguez Hills).
