WALNUT CREEK —
Dakota Watts has been named the Wilson CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 23-March 1 for his performance in Saturday's win over Sonoma State.
Watts, a junior from Oroville, pitched a gem on Saturday, helping the Warriors to an important doubleheader split against defending CCAA and West Region champion Sonoma State. After the Warriors dropped the opener, Watts provided the much-needed boost and went 8 strong innings and pitched a two-hit shutout before giving way to
Eric Federico to close out the game.
In eight innings, Watts allowed just two infield singles and faced the minimum number of batters through five. In the Sonoma sixth, he pitched out of a jam after two Stanislaus errors that allowed SSU to load the bases with one out. He would do the same thing in the seventh and eighth innings, getting out of trouble after base runners reach on errors.
In the end, Watts struck out seven and walked two, to improve his personal record to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.14.
