TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus baseball team had its way with visiting Academy of Art University on Saturday as the Warriors scored 24 runs on 17 hits to beat the Urban Knights, 24-1.

After a two-hour rain delay, the teams managed to get one long game in before canceling game two of the scheduled doubleheader. Saturday's nine-inning contest took three hours and 15 minutes to complete with some long innings.

Casey Filkins went 2-for-4 with a home run and drove in four runs and David Contreras had two doubles with four RBIs to lead the Stanislaus (1-1) offense. The Warriors used 17 non-pitchers in the game and 11 of them had at least a hit.

Kory Wallace made his first start on the year and gave up just two hits in six innings for the win. He struck out five and walked one before turning it over to the bullpen. Phillip Quade and Michael Hudelson toss the final three innings with Quade allowing an RBI double in the eighth.

Corey Conflenti also had two doubles and scored four times while Thomas Shull went 2-for-3 with a double and plated three runs. Joey Blakely and Andrew Graves had two hits each.

Filkins gave the Warriors an early 2-0 lead in the first with his first home run of the season. Stanislaus tagged on three runs in the second on just two hits that was highlighted by a Contreras two-run double.

In the Warrior fourth, Filkins and Graves doubled in runs with Alex Zanini driving in another for a four-run inning to give CSUS a 9-0 lead.

Academy of Art (0-1) finally pushed together a run when Brandon Kistler drew a two-out walk and scored on a Ryan Worley double to right-center to make it 17-1.

The Warriors, though, would score seven runs on just one hit in the eighth inning. AAU pitchers hit six batters and walked three Warriors in the inning. Shull drove in two runs with a double with the only hit in the frame.

The 23-run win was nearly a new school record for the widest margin of victory. The mark is 26 runs when the Warriors beat Menlo College 30-4 in 1988.
