TURLOCK — As teams arrive Pedretti Sports Complex this morning to prepare for Sunday's games of the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational, a downpour dumped more rain on the already saturated fields prompting the cancellation of the tournament.
The tournament was scheduled to resume on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. after Saturday's cancelation. Crews worked on the field all day Saturday and had them ready for play early Sunday to resume the tournament.
After delaying the start on Sunday for an hour, many teams opted to hit the road to return home. Tournament officials, umpires, grounds crew and coaches deemed that fields would be unsafe to play on.
Eleven games of the 35 tournament games were completed on Friday with Grand Canyon, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Chico State all went 2-0. No tournament winner will be declared.
The Warriors next take the field when they open California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday hosting Cal State Monterey Bay at Warrior Softball Field.
