VALLEJO -- Brandon Taylor has been a tremendous addition to the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team this spring. On Tuesday, he completed his best tournament thus far as a Warrior, shooting a 75 for an one-over score to win the CSUEB Pioneer Shootout.

The tournament, held at Vallejo's Hiddenbrooke Golf Club's par 72, 6698-yard layout, is hosted by Cal State East Bay. Cal State Monterey Bay shot a 287 as a team on Tuesday to win the team competition.

"I was hoping we could hold on and get our second win of the Spring but (CSU) Monterey Bay played great golf today," CSUS head coach John Cook said. "It is nice to see our team getting into contention to be able to win. I know they are glad to see some results from the hard work they are putting in."

The Warriors had the lead after Monday's play when they carded 311-292 for 603 but an uncharacteristic 301 on Tuesday allowed CSUMB to surpass them to finish eight strokes ahead. Cal State Stanislaus finished second, a stroke ahead of Sonoma State (905) and three better than Dallas Baptist (907). Tournament host CSUEB placed fifth with a 916.

For Taylor, a sophomore transfer from Oregon State, this is his third consecutive tournament in three tries this Spring where he shot 218 or better. He has also finished in the top 10 in all three events.

"Brandon had two really solid rounds in those cold and windy conditions," Cook said. "It is nice to see him get his first win. I think it's going to give him some much needed confidence for the rest of the year."

This week, Taylor started with a 71 Monday morning under bad weather to jump out ahead of the field with a two-stroke lead. Taylor followed it with another 71 in the second round before a 75 on Tuesday to finish with the 217 score, beating Oskar Nystrom of CSUMB who finished second by five strokes.

Another Warrior sophomore Trevor Blair tied for fourth with a solid 223 for the tournament.

Teddy Schrier (232), Joseph Stewart (233) and #J.T. Cockerill# (243) completed the Stanislaus scoring.

Taylor was seventh with a two-over 218 at the Division I Cal State Bakersfield Elco Invitational on Feb. 22-23. He followed it with a two-over 212 for ninth place at the Coyote Classic in San Bernardino.
