SAN FRANCISCO — Denali Foldager posted a top 10 finish among a field of strong West Region competitors as the Cal State Stanislaus women's cross country team finished seventh at the 2009 San Francisco State Invitational. Dawson Vorderbruegge was the top Warrior on the men's side with an 11th place showing.

The event, held at the Speedway Meadow at Golden Gate Park served as a preview meet for this year's NCAA Division II West Regional Championship to be held next month.

Alaska Anchorage won the women's team race with 15 points, followed by Chico State, Santa Clara and San Jose State. Western Oregon and Humboldt State finished ahead of the Warriors.

Foldager had a time of 22:31.2 as the top California Collegiate Athletic Association finisher, finishing ahead of Chico State's Paige Henker (22:32.1). The solid field of women included defending national champion Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific. Pixler finished the 6K run in 20:36.4 on Friday. Her teammate Jane Larson (21:37.9) finished second. The SPU duo were followed b five consecutive Alaska Anchorage runners.

Rubye Foldager came in 27th in 23:26.2 and Chelsea Deerinck was 42nd (23:53.9) to pace the Stanislaus women.

"The women ran awesome and Denali ran great with a top 10 finish," CSUS head coach Diljeet Taylor said. "This was a good preview meet for us and I am pleased with how both teams ran, especially after a tough week of workouts."

In the men's race, Vorderbruegge came in 11th as the seventh best collegiate runner in the 8K run. The sophomore from Honolulu clocked 25:53.4 to lead the team to a sixth place finish. Alaska Anchorage, which also won the men's team competition, was led by Marko Cheseto in 24:52.6. Anchorage finished second in regionals a year ago.

Stanislaus senior Joey Nunes came in in 26:44.1 for 36th place, followed by Shane Brookshire in 52nd place (27:17.4).

The Warriors will take next weekend off from competition and prepare for the CCAA Cross Country Championships on Oct. 24 in McKinleyville, hosted by Humboldt State.
