Verena Preikschas has been named the Penn/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 9-15. It marks the second time this season that she has been honored.
A freshman from Arnsberg, Germany, Preikschas went a combined 4-0 while playing at No. 1 singles and doubles. During a 7-2 victory over No. 29 Hawaii-Hilo, the Warriors' freshman defeated Eve Castaing, 6-3, 7-6 (6-4), after teaming with Katie Eng to defeat Castaing and Christie Pagatapatan, 8-4.
In Saturday's match against five-time defending CCAA Champion UC San Diego, Preikschas registered an impressive victory over the Tritons' Natalie Varnay, 6-1, 6-0. She again teamed with Eng to post an 8-5 victory over Ina Dan and Taskeen Bains at No. 1 doubles.
Preikschas improved to 4-0 in No. 1 dual matches and 3-0 in the CCAA. She and Eng also improved their No. 1 doubles record to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in CCAA play.
