ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --
Annie Burlingham is just a couple of days away from the biggest competition of her athletic life as the senior pole vaulter is getting set for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Track & Field Championships.
Burlingham and pole vault coach
Tom Brenda will be on their way to the Albuquerque Convention Center, site of the national championship event, hosted by Adams State College and the Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau.
She will compete in the women's pole vault event, scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. Mountain Time on Friday, March 12.
Annie Burlingham enters the event as the sixth ranked vaulter in Division II with a top clearance of 3.86 meter or 12 feet, eight inches. She reached that height on Feb. 5 at Fresno State's Run for he Dream at the Save Mart Center.
Minnesota State-Mankato's Lauren Stelten is the top qualifier with a 13-4 1/2.
For Burlingham, pole vaulting on the national stage is also a family affair. Her husband,
Kasey Burlingham, also a senior pole vaulter on the Warriors' men's team is the defending national champion in outdoor track and field.
Burlingham hopes to follow the footstep of former Warriors earning All-American status in pole vault during the indoor season.
Rosemary Feikert was the last Warrior to earn the honor in 2008. Chaunte Mitchell was a two-time All-American in 2005-06.
