ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Having been at the Albuquerque Convention Center for a preview meet at the start of the year, and having her husband with her, probably helped Annie Burlingham on Friday.

The senior pole vaulter successfully cleared 12-feet-2 to reach her goal of being an All-American in the women's pole vault as she finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

Truman State's Katrina Bierman won the national championship with a height of 13-1 3/4. She actually had the same height as top ranked Lauren Stelten but placed first on attempts.

For Burlingham, who according to pole vault coach Tom Brenda has been struggling in her outdoor meets so far this season, the sixth place finish was a good result. She peaked this season early, hitting the seasonal best, and qualifying mark of 12-8 on Feb. 5.

The Warriors made a trip out to Albuquerque to start the indoor season on Jan. 23 and that helped Burlingham on Friday.

"Having been here earlier in the year calmed her and gave her some confidence especially after the last couple of weeks where she's been in a funk," Brenda said.

Burlingham's husband, Kasey, was able to make the trip to cheer her on. Kasey is the defending men's outdoor champion in the pole vault. Both Annie and Kasey are currently competing in the outdoor track and field season for the Warriors.

Burlingham entered the national championship meet ranked sixth in the nation and her top eight finish earned her the All-American honor -- the fourth Warrior to reach this plateu since 2005. Rosemary Feikert was the last Warrior to earn the honor in 2008. Chaunte Mitchell was a two-time All-American in 2005-06.
