CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The final lists have been released and five Cal State Stanislaus track and field student-athletes are heading to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The national championship meet is May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Complex at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.
Kasey Burlingham represent the lone male athlete returning to the big meet as the senior will have an opportunity to defend his national title in men's pole vault. Burlingham appears to be peaking at the right time as he posted a 2010 season high of 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches last Friday night at the CSUS Twilight Qualifier.
Burlingham won the 2009 national championship by clearing 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches at San Angelo, Texas. Currently, the two-time CCAA Champion is ranked No. 2 behind Western Washington's Ryan Brown (17-7).
Four women are making the trek across the country with two pole vaulters hoping to continue the women's pole vaulters' successes in recent years.
Alycia Wagner and
Annie Burlingham both qualified at No.14 and No. 16, respectively. Since 2003, there have been six Warrior All-Americans in the event include two national titles won by Chaunte Mitchell (2004-05).
Annie Burlingham is looking to become a two-time All-American in the same year as she earned that honor in Indoor Track & Field in March when she finished sixth at 12-feet, 2 inches in Albuquerque, N.M.
In the 3000-meter Steeplechase,
Denali Foldager solidified her spot last Friday night with a run of 10:46.22 at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium. The sophomore is ranked 16th on the performance list.
Derrhea McLiechey, who is coming off a CCAA Newcomer of the Year award honor and a strong meet at the conference championships, qualified at No. 15 in the 400-meter dash. Her quickest time of the year was 55.45 seconds recorded at the CCAA Championships in La Jolla on May 6.
