For the 10th consecutive year the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team has been ranked regionally by the National Soccer Coaches Associate of America. The Warriors debuted today at No. 8 in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com West Region poll.
“It is always nice to be recognized as a top program,” said head women's soccer coach
Gabriel Bolton. “However, as a program we don't really worry about rankings. We just try to take one day at a time and try to improve every time we step on the field.”
The Warriors (2-0) opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Fresno Pacific in Fresno on Thursday before returning home on Saturday night to defeat Western Oregon, 4-0 for their third consecutive shutout dating back to last year's season finale at San Francisco State.
California Collegiate Athletic Association opponents UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.
“We set a number of pre-season goals and one of those was to go undefeated in the pre-season,” said Bolton. “Now it is time to build on this foundation and turn our focus to the conference season.”
The Warriors open CCAA play on the road Friday against San Francisco State at 3:00 p.m.
