Villanueva, a senior defender, was instrumental in leading the No. 3-ranked Stan State men’s soccer team to a 2–0 victory over Hawai‘i Hilo in the NCAA Division II Super Region IV Second Round. He assisted on both goals in the win, breaking the program’s all-time career assists record with his 16th on the opening goal and extending it to 17 on the second. Villanueva’s performance helped the Warriors advance to the NCAA Super Region IV Third Round for the first time in program history; the team’s previous deepest run came in 2012, when Stan State reached the second round. He also anchored a defense that posted its 12th shutout of the season.
