Stan State turned in a record-setting performance at the Wildcat Classic at Peach Tree Country Club in Marysville, finishing second with a school-record three-round score of 34-under-par 830.
The Warriors carded rounds of 276-271-283, with their second-round 271 establishing a new program record for the lowest team round. The opening-round 276 also tied for the third-lowest team round in program history.
Mason Montgomery led Stan State individually, finishing sixth at 9-under 207 after rounds of 68-70-69. Montgomery recorded 17 birdies during the tournament, while his 207 tied for the sixth-lowest individual tournament score in program history.
Riley Kirk tied for 11th at 7-under 209, while Carson Diaz, Ricky Sullivan and Ryan Giardino each tied for 13th at 6-under 210. All five Warriors in the scoring lineup finished the tournament under par.
Stan State finished eight strokes behind No. 23 Chico State and eight strokes ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay, which were both receiving votes in the preseason national poll. The Warriors also finished 13 strokes ahead of No. 25 Cal State San Marcos.
Stan State returns to action Oct. 5-6 at the RCA Electric Fall Invitational in Monterey.
