TURLOCK --- In front of a record crowd, Cal State Stanislaus played well and hung with No. 20 Chico State, but the Wildcats prevailed in three games, 30-21, 30-28, 30-24, in a CCAA women's volleyball match Wednesday night.

Debbie Vander Schaaf had 12 kills and Megan Britton had 21 digs to lead the Warriors as they dropped to 1-9 in the CCAA and 5-16 overall. The match was played in front of a large homecoming crowd of 426 -- a new Warrior Arena record for volleyball.

Also contributing on the night was Nicole Musso who had nine kills and three block-assists. Caitlin Steffeck recorded four more blocks and is now just six shy of setting the school record in blocks in a career.

"I am really happy with the performance tonight. We had been in a slump lately and to see other people other than Debbie step-up tonight was good," CSUS head coach Chris Difani said. "We had some moments of great volleyball against a very good team. We are finally understanding the new 6-2 offense."

Chico State improved to 14-6 overall and 7-3 in the conference. The Wildcats were led by Gillian Heydorff and Kelly Smiland each with nine kills. Whitney Johnson and Crystal Trifeletti each added seven kills for the balance attack.

Statistically, the Warriors were pretty close to an even-match with Chico State on the night with only one glaring difference. CSUS had 18 service errors and Chico had 10 aces.

"It was really nice having the fans in the stands tonight. The student turn out was great. Volleyball is about momentums and the students and parents brought a lot of energy -- and that helped us," Difani added.

CSU Stanislaus will play host to Humboldt State Friday night at 7 p.m. to try to snap the five-match skid.
