TURLOCK —  On Senior Day, the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team defeated the Humboldt State Lumberjacks 3-2 Sunday at Warrior Soccer Field.  With the win the Warriors are now 9-6-2 overall and 7-2-2 in the CCAA.  Humboldt drops to 3-12-2 and 1-10-0 in the CCAA.

The Warriors came out strong in the first half, dominating every aspect of the game.  Senior Cherie Early got the Warriors on the board in the 19th minute when she scored on a double assist from Adrienne Sorenson and senior Jenna Coates.  Just one minute and eighteen seconds later, Early found the net again.  This time Kim DiNardo passed it in, Sorenson deflected it right to Early who booted it into the right side of the net.  “Cherie did an excellent job creating opportunities for herself and her teammates today,” noted head coach Gabe Bolton.  With the two goals, Early now has the second most career points in Cal State Stanislaus history with 49.  She is also fifth in goals with 17 and second in assists with 15.

The Warriors out shot the Lumberjacks 12 to 4 in the first half and began the second half much the same way.  In the 55th minute, Jenna Kasch served a beautiful ball into the box on a corner kick and Melissa Phillips was able to head it in for her second goal of the season.

However, Humboldt would make a game of it. In the 75th minute, Rebekah Chmura knocked one in for the Lumberjacks.  Just eleven minutes later, Kim Carroll cut the lead to one.

Despite the late push, the Warriors were able to hold on and preserve the 3-2 victory.  “I thought the first 75 minutes was the best soccer we have played all year, both offensively and defensively,” noted Bolton, “but give Humboldt credit for battling back and making it exciting”.

Before the match the Warriors four seniors, Jenna Coates, Kasie Rozario, Petra Schaaf and Cherie Early, were recognized for their contributions to the program and Cal State Stanislaus athletics.  “It is a great group of players, they work hard on and off the field and are great representatives of Cal State Stanislaus and the athletic department,” said Bolton.

The Warriors, who entered today's match just two points behind Chico State for the North Division lead, will travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills and UC San Diego this weekend before concluding the regular season at Chico on October 27th.
