TURLOCK --- The visiting Hawaii Hilo Vulcans made quick work of their trip to Turlock as they defeated the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors in three games in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday night.

Josimara Pinheiro had 14 kills and Fabiane Seben added 10 to lead UHH to a 30-23, 30-18, 30-18 win over CSU Stanislaus to improve to 10-5. The Warriors, dropped to 5-13 and will have to travel to face Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino this weekend.

The match only lasted one hour and nine minutes.

Debbie Vander Schaaf had 12 kills, two aces and three blocks to lead the Warriors. No other Stanislaus player had more than four kills. The Warriors' service game also struggled with 11 service errors and 13 receiving errors. Defensively, the highest dig total was three by four different players. Megan Loghry had three assisted blocks and Nicki Brown had two aces to pace the Warriors.

The Vulcans hit a strong .376 for the match and dominated games two and three. In the second set, UHH had 16 kills with two errors on 28 attempts for a proficient .500 hitting attack.

The match started out promising for the young Warriors as they battled point-for-point against the stronger and bigger Vulcan team which featured some foreign players from Brazil. A Collen Sullivan ace pulled the team within one at 21-20, but UHH's KaUwila Lavea turned the momentum with a kill to help her team roll off a 8-3 run to finish off CSUS.

Either games two or three were close as the Vulcan had leads of 10-plus points for the most part. In game three, UHH led 21-6 after an 11-1 run halfway through the set.
