SEASIDE -- Artemio Arteaga scored early to end the Warriors' long scoring drought as Cal State Stanislaus held on to defeat Cal State Monterey Bay, 1-0, in a CCAA men's soccer match Friday afternoon.

Arteaga's goal just three minutes into the match proved to be the game-winner as Cal State Stanislaus won for the first time in six matches to improve to 3-8-3 overall and 2-5-2 in league play. CSUMB is now 3-4-2, 2-4-2 CCAA.

"We definitely feel good about the win because it has been a little while since we tasted victory," CSUS head coach Eric Mild said. "Getting that first goal was very important to our team today as we played with much more energy after that."

In a very physical contest, the Warriors dominated offensively out-shooting the Otters and created numerous scoring changes. With the solid defense, Stanislaus held on to pick up the win. It was Herrera's six shutout of the year -- his 20th in his career.

Arteaga scored his team leading fourth goal of the year on a play set up by Dennis Wolfe and Matt Johnson. Wolfe played the ball to Johnson who one-timed it to Arteaga who finished the play for the lead. Arteaga has now score the Warriors' last three goals.

The Warriors will rest until next Friday when they face Sonoma State during homecoming week. Stanislaus then faces Humboldt State in the home season finale next Sunday. The CSUS-HSU match will be the final soccer contest to be played on Warrior Soccer Field as construction of the new Student Recreation Center with a track and soccer stadium is set to begin the following week.
