No. 16 UCSD downs CSU Stanislaus in three

TURLOCK --- Facing a nationally ranked team for the second consecutive night, the Cal State Stanislaus women's volleyball team got a late start but challenged No. 16 UC San Diego before falling in three games Saturday night.

Casey Wilson had 14 kills to lead all players as the visiting Tritons defeated the Warriors, 30-12, 30-28, 30-28, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match at Warrior Arena. UCSD rebounded from an upset lost to No. 22 Chico State Friday and improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. CSUS falls to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the CCAA.

Nicole Musso, Caitlin Steffeck and Megan Loghry each had seven kills and Debbie Vander Schaaf added six kills to lead Cal State Stanislaus.

UC San Diego came out in the first game rolling to a 30-12 win An 11-1 run turned a 8-6 UCSD lead into a 19-7 advantage as the Tritons cruised behind their strong hitting. As a group UCSD recorded a .474 hitting percent in the opening game.

The Warriors, however, were ready for the challenge in game two. After UCSD ran off to an early lead CSUS battled back and held UCSD at game-point for 9 points. After a kill by Steffeck to make it 29-20, Megan Britton served eight straight points to make it 29-28. UCSD, however, held on for the win on a Wilson kill to end the Warrior rally.

Cal State Stanislaus made things interesting again late in game three. Trailing 27-22, Loghry started a 6-1 run with two consecutive kills to tie the score at 28-28. Rebecca Bailey and Amber Ries would end the match with back to back kills for UCSD.
