SAN BERNARDINO --- Bri McClain scored twice for the Warriors and goalkeeper
Jessica Sitarz again turned in an outstanding performance as Cal State Stanislaus blanked Cal State San Bernardino, 2-0, Sunday at San Bernardino.
McClain's first score, at 21:49, was set up by a Cherie Early cross -- and it was enough for the Warriors to improve to 7-3-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the California Collegiate Athletics Association. CSUSB is 3-5-2 and 0-5-1 in the CCAA.
"We were really organized defensively behind the ball and as the game went on we got in control offensively and created many scoring opportunities," Warrior head coach Gabe Bolton said. "Bri had a good game and was really aggressive offensively and took players on one-on-one."
The win, the Warriors five straight including the forfeit win over Sonoma State, sets up a showdown on Wednesday when division rival Chico State comes to Turlock.
"It's always great to come back home and play in front of our fans," Bolton said. "We won't need much motivation to get ready for Chico, it's a big rivalry game."
McClain's second goal -- her fourth of the year -- came in the 57th minute with
Kaity Bojorquez getting the assist. CSUS goalkeeper Sitarz put up another zero for her fifth shutout of the season. She has now held the opponents scoreless for 302 consecutive minutes. Sitarz had four saves on Sunday against the Coyotes.
"(
Jessica Sitarz) had an awesome weekend, she really stepped up and made some great plays and had some great plays during key possessions," Bolton said. "She deserves a lot of credit for our success right now."
Cal State Stanislaus opens up a three-game homestand this week. After the mid-week CCAA North game against Chico State on Wednesday, the Warriors host Cal State L.A. on Friday before taking on Mesa State on Sunday in a non-conference match.
