TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team lost 3-1 to the visiting Chico State Wildcats, Wednesday at Warrior Soccer Field. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 6-5-1 (5-1-1 CCAA) and the Wildcats improve to 7-4-0 (5-2-0 CCAA).
The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Courtney Quan scored in the 25th minute of play and Katie Kause headed one in off a corner kick.
The Warriors had some opportunities to score in the first half, but nothing found the net. “In the first 20 minutes we created a lot of chances and just got unlucky,” said head coach Gabe Bolton.
The luck seemed to change when Bri McClain knocked one in just two minutes into the second half, it was her fifth of the year. McClain took a pass from Cherie Early and kicked a beautiful crossing shot from the right side that found the side of the net.
However, the Wildcats tacked on a goal in the 63rd minute on another header stemming from a corner kick situation. This time Anjie Goulding headed it in and gave the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.
The Warriors would have some chances late in the game, but were unable to put one in. “Chico finished opportunities and we did not, that was the difference in the game,” added coach Bolton.
The Warriors complete the first half of the CCAA schedule in first place in the North Division.
The Warriors will be back in action Friday as they host the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles, at 4:00 p.m. at Warrior Soccer Field.
