TURLOCK --- The Cal State Stanislaus Volleyball team beat Sonoma State in four, 30-27, 30-23, 19-30, 31-29, Friday at Warrior Arena. The Warriors received their first win in CCAA play, improving their record to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the CCAA.
This was Warrior Coach Christina Difani's first win over Sonoma since being inducted into the Sonoma State Athletic Hall of Fame. The Warriors won the first two games with the scores 30-27 and 30-23. Sonoma bounced back and won the third game 30-19. The fourth game was tight until the final two points with a score of 31-29, ending the game and winning the match.
Debbie Vander Schaaf led the Warriors with 14 kills, followed by 11 kills and five blocks by Megan Loughry. Karly Van Foeken collected 10 kills and 4 blocks. "Karly and Nicole had pivitol blocks at big moments," stated Warrior Coach Christina Difani.
Coach Difani added, "It was nice to see the team play in a match the way they play in practice." She also stated, "Megan and Debbie did very well in a leadership role."
Megan Britton also played well in the libero position collecting 32 digs.
Marianne Fox led the Seawolves with 11 kills and Taylor Manton led the team as the libero with 37 digs.
The Warriors will be back in action Saturday night, against Cal State Monterey Bay, with first serve at 7 p.m. at Warrior Arena.
