TURLOCK —  The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team was able to come back strong after dropping a pair of  tough CCAA matches earlier in the week, by beating Mesa State 2-1 in a non-conference match, Sunday at Warrior Soccer Field.  With the win the Warriors improve to 7-6-1 overall.  Mesa drops to 5-5-2.
The Warriors got on the board early when Bri McClain took a lead pass from Cherie Early, beat a defender and then knocked in her team leading sixth goal of the season in the third minute of action.  “Bri did an outstanding job keeping possessions all game and scored a beautiful goal on a play we have been working on all year,” noted head coach Gabe Bolton.  Early picked up her sixth assist of the year, giving her 15 career assists which is second most in school history.
The mavericks came back with a goal of their own in the 13th minute of play when Stephanie Lee scored on a pass from Deborah Benson.  The scored was tied 1-1 at the half.
In the second half the Warriors continued to attack and were able to punch in another goal off a corner kick.  Jenna Kasch drove a beautiful kick into the box and Tiffani Moore headed in her third goal of the season.
The Warriors were on the offensive the entire game, out shooting the Mavericks 13 to 11.  They also had three goals called back due to offside infractions.  “We played some of our best possession soccer of the year and created a lot of opportunities for ourselves,” added Bolton, “it was nice to bounce back from a couple of tough losses”.
The women will be on the road next weekend for a single match at Cal State Monterey Bay, Friday October 5th.  They return home for their final two home contests, Friday October 12 against Sonoma State and Sunday October 14 against Humboldt State.
