ARCATA —FIve players hit double digits as Humboldt State's offense powered to a 95-81 win over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.

The Warriors dropped to 3-12 overall and and 2-6 in league, but not before mounting a comeback attempt in the waning minutes. J.R. Cassita who finished with 22 points, led the surge with 13 points in the final seven minutes, hitting three three-pointers during the stretch.

Devin Peal scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Humboldt State, and was supported by Grayson Moyer's 17 points. Also in double figures for the Warriors were Heath Colvin with 16 points, and Rick Cardoso and Duane Jones with 14 each.

After the Jacks had led by as many as 18 points they allowed the Warriors to pull within six before a key three-pointer by freshman Ernie Spada reestablished HSU's advantage with two minutes, 31 seconds remaining.

In the game's opening minutes, Humboldt State quickly forged ahead, Peal and Vandermeer scoring inside and Sheufelt and Moyer adding a perimeter game. The Lumberjacks were up 21-8 only seven minutes into the game, and stretched their lead to as many as 15 points as the half progressed.

The Warriors rallied, pulling within seven points on Chris Hayes' layup with 3:4 left before the break. But Spada hit a three-pointer and Vandermeer banked home a shot at the buzzer to provide the Jacks with a 51-37 lead at halftime.

The Warriors will be on the road next weekend to play Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
