SF State trips up Stanislaus in four

TURLOCK — Beth Perkins was a force for San Francisco State as the Gators tripped up the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors in four sets, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16, Saturday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match.

Perkins, a junior outside hitter, led SF State with 27 kills and 17 digs as the Gators improved to 11-8 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA. The Warriors played well in the defeat and dropped to 4-16 and 1-9 in league play.

Lianne Vicchio and Jen Gee each had 14 kills to lead the Warriors. Vicchio also had 19 digs to go with 23 digs from Amanda Pielstick and 15 from Megan Britton. Setter Nicki Brown had a season-high 43 assists.

Perkins was swinging often and often also found the floor for Gator points. Perkins was 27 for 62 with just seven errors for an attacking error of .323. She had nine kills in the fourth set that finally put the match away.

The Warriors rallied to win the second set, 26-24, behind a team effort that was led by outside hitters Gee and Vicchio. Gee had six of her kills in the set. The defense was also up to the task, totaling 16 digs.

However, SFSU got out early in the final two sets and held off Stanislaus comeback to hold on for the win. Kyle Lamet and Kelly Burke had 10 kills, Mary Maiocco 51 assists and Christina Johnson had 28 digs to lead San Francisco State.

Also contributing for the Warriors is Angela Ohland with eight kills and Megan Loghry had three blocks to go with five kills.
