ARCATA -- In a see-saw volleyball battle, the match tipped in favor of Humboldt State as the Lumberjacks rallied from down 2-1 to defeat Cal State Stanislaus Friday night.
Despite 16 kills from senior
Megan Loghry, the Warriors could not hold on in the new Lumberjack Arena in losing to Humboldt State, 21-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-7, 15-10. Cal State Stanislaus dropped its fifth straight and falls to 4-17 overall and 1-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Lynsey Adams had 14 kills to lead Humboldt State as the Lumberjacks improved to 7-11 and 5-6 in the CCAA. Adams also had 15 digs and two blocks.
For Cal State Stanislaus,
Jen Gee had 12 kills while
Lianne Vicchio added 10 kills and 16 digs. Loghry also had two blocks and two service aces to go with her season-best 16 kills.
The back-and-forth battle went the Warriors way in the first and third as Stanislaus took a 2-1 lead. Humboldt State, however, made it easy on itself in sets two and four winning easily 25-11 and 25-7.
Loghry took control of the match in the third with six of her kills during the set. She also went 4-for-5 without an error in the decisive fifth. Viccho, who struggled early, picked up the pace late and had five of her kills (on six attempts without an error) in the fifth.
Humboldt State's offense, however, was error-less in the fifth to pull out the win.
The Warriors will continue their road trip with a match at Sonoma State Saturday night.
