TURLOCK — It may be the same story again, but Cal State Stanislaus head coach Chris Lore continues to be upbeat and was pleased with her team's performance Saturday night.

The Warriors square off against another nationally ranked team in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match and despite playing well, they lost in in straight sets to No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona. Saturday night's scores were 25-16, 25-22, 25-23. It was the Warriors' second consecutive nationally ranked opponent and their seventh this season.

"It's the story of the season, I felt we played tough against obviously a very good team," Lore said. "We continued to get better and improved on a few things tonight."

Cal Poly Pomona improved to 14-5 overall and 11-3 in the CCAA.

Freshmen Lianne Vicchio and Angela Ohland led the way for the Warriors (4-20, 1-13 CCAA) as Vicchio had 10 kills and 9 digs while Ohland chipped in seven kills. Sophomore Jen Gee had eight kills and 7 digs while Sophomore Amanda Pielstick added 12 digs. Sophomore setter Nicki Brown got the start tonight and finished with 27 assists.

"Lianne turned it on towards the end and Angela picked it up tonight," Lore said about her freshmen. Vicchio had four kills in the each of the final two sets and Ohland had four of her kills in the third. Ohland was 7 for 14 without an hitting error.

After Cal Poly Pomona put together a strong set one with 13 kills to win 25-16, the Warriors responded in the second. Stanislaus rallied to pull within two at 23-21 on a Megan Loghry kill, but after a Pomona timeout, the Broncos got two of the next three points on kills by Kristen McNeese and Anne-Marie Hofmans to win. The third set was a similar story and the Warriors had two late leads, but two untimely service errors shifted the momentum as the Broncos held on to win.

Vanessa Williams had 10 kills and four blocks to lead the Cal Poly Pomona offense. Setter Jasmine Davis had 36 assists and Rafaela Rosa had 15 digs.
