ROHNERT PARK -- Trailing two sets to one, the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors volleyball team battled back and pulled out a close one to beat Notre Dame de Namur in five, 25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-13, Saturday.

The match, played at Sonoma State's Rec Center as a part of the Seawolf Spike Tournament, moved Stanislaus to 1-2 on the season. The Warriors will play this afternoon at 2 p.m. against Montana State-Billings.

Freshmen Victoria Costa and Lianne Vicchio picked up the offensive void left open by early-season leader Jen Gee. Costa put away 14 kills to go with five block-assists while Vicchio continued to shine with 14 kills.

Vicchio has now had double digits in kills in each match this season and is averaging 3.08 per set. In three matches the top incoming freshman has tallied 37 kills.

The Warriors looked strong early taking the first set 25-20 in relative ease. However, their attacking went missing in games two and three, giving up 17 errors in those two sets. Gee, who had led the team thus far, struggled from the outside, going 8-for-48 with 15 errors.

Gee, however, was picked up by the play of her teammates especially Costa and Vicchio. Senior Megan Loghry chipped in six kills with an efficient percentage of .312 to go with three total blocks. Angela Ohland also had three blocks.

Setter Colleen Sullivan had 27 assists and libero Amanda Pielstick had 27 digs.

The fifth and decisive set was one of see-saw battle with teams going within two points of each other the entire way. After the latest tie at 13-13, the Warriors got a kill by Loghry for match point and freshmen Costa and Ohland finished the thriller with a double-block.
