ROHNERT PARK –
Megan Loghry was as prolific as one can be offensively in volleyball. The senior led the Warriors volleyball team to a second victory on Saturday, defeating Montana State-Billings in three, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21.
With the win the Warriors completed the Seawolf Spike Tournament with a 2-2 record.
Loghry was on fire hitting the court in bounds with plenty of efficiency. She was 8 for her first 10 attempts to finish with 11 kills on 14 chances and one error for a attacking percentage of .714. Loghry was especially strong in set two, putting away seven of her 10 chances to help CSUS battle back from behind to win the set 25-23.
Cal State Stanislaus trailed the Yellowjackets 10-6 early in the third and bounced back behind timely hitting by freshman
Lianne Vicchio who had six of her 10 kills during the third set.
After Loghry broke the 21-21 tie with a kill, Stanislaus rolled off three straight points, capped by a Vicchio service ace and a kill by Jen Gee to end the match.
“In our first weekend of play, I am really proud of how the team played…especaily the way they battled against tough opponents this weekend,” CSUS head coach Chris Lore. “They just rocked it.”
As a team, the Warriors hit .337 against MSU Billings. Running the offense effectively, setter Colleen Sullivan had 32 assists. Adding to Loghry and Vicchio's totals were eight kills apiece by Victoria Costa and Gee.
The Warriors will participate in the Otter Invitational next weekend in Seaside. Stanislaus will take on Western Washington and Eastern New Mexico on Friday and William Jessup on Saturday. Western Washington finished second in the nation last season.
