SAN FRANCISCO -- With each match, the young Cal State Stanislaus Warriors volleyball team improve on parts of the game. Tuesday night, the Warriors did more growing the hard way as they dropped a non-conference match to Academy of Art.

For the second time in a week, the Urban Knights defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 25-13, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, at UCSF's Bakar Recreation Center.

After dropping the opener, the Warriors competed against the bigger and more seasoned team and batted the rest of the way. Academy of Art had to hold on to stab off Stanislaus rallies to improve to 10-3. Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 3-11 heading into this weekend's road trip to Southern California.

"We played three solid games and we are improving. We just have to keep improving and take baby steps. We are playing in LA this weekend and it's another opportunity to get better," Stanislaus coach Chris Lore said.

The category where the Warriors improved the most was service errors. The team had recorded in double-digits and many times in the 20s this season with service errors. Tuesday night, the Warriors cut that down to nine -- and five of them came in the fourth.

Last week, against the same Urban Knights, Cal State Stanislaus had 21 and lost in five sets.

Jen Gee led the team with 14 kills. Lianne Vicchio led with 16 digs to go with her eight kills. Megan Briton also had 12 digs. Nicki Brown had 27 assists.

The Warriors also played well in the blocking game, stuffing a total of eight attacks with Angela Ohland leading with a solo and four assisted blocks.

Despite being a first-year program, Academy of Art has many transfers and experienced players including National Junior College player of the year Dan Yang, who led AAU with 14 kills. Alexandra Leja had 35 assists and 13 digs.

Cal State Stanislaus has one senior and one junior on the team.

The Warriors will take on #22 Cal State L.A. on Friday before facing Cal State Dominguez Hills on Satudray.
