Warriors battle with Cal State L.A. before dropping in four

TURLOCK -- The Warriors have had the history of beating Cal State L.A. at Warrior Arena in recent years. Saturday, the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team put up a great effort and extended the Golden Eagles before dropping in four sets.

Despite 17 kills from Lianne Vicchio, the Warriors dropped to 8-11 overall and 2-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after the 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 21-25 setback. The Warriors, however, went 2-2 in their last four matches.

Vicchio, who also had a career-high 17 kills on Friday, was again the offensive weapon of choice with 66 swings. The sophomore outside hitter came away with 17 kills and eight errors for a .136 percentage.

Amanda Pielstick had 15 digs, Lauren Charles with 13 and Megan Britton had 12 digs for the Warriors.

Cal State L.A. was led by Gabriela Bulawczyk with 16 kills. Marquis Mora and Zuzana Cizova each had nine kills. Two other Golden Eagles -- Mary Laupepa and Chelsea Hamilton -- had eight kills a piece.

As a team, L.A. had 72 digs to the Warriors 54. Stefanie Gay was credited with 24 digs. Setter Kaylynne De La Rose picked up 45 assists.

The Warriors beat Cal State L.A. last year in Turlock and upset the Golden Eagles when they were nationally ranked in 2006.
