POMONA —
Jio Santana scored the game's only goal when he scored in the 79th minute as the visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors defeated Cal Poly Pomona, 1-0, in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer Friday night.
The Warriors improved to 8-5-1 and 5-5-1 in the CCAA, while Pomona dropped to 6-7-1, 4-6-1. The win is the Warriors' second consecutive 1-0 victory.
The goal was Santana's third this season. He also scored the goal in last Saturday's 1-0 win over Chico State.
"I am extremely pleased with the guys tonight with the way they battled. We knew (CPP) would come out strong and we matched their energy," CSUS head coach
Dana Taylor said. "We fought hard during the first half and we worked hard enough to bring back the shots and scoring chances."
Victor Regalado assisted on Santana's score against Cal Poly Pomona.
CSUS outshot CPP 14-11 as the Broncos fired four shots at Warriors goalie Javier Rosales.
Stanislaus' road trip continues on Sunday when it faces Cal State San Bernardino at 11:30 a.m.
"We are proud of the way the guys concentrated and finished the scoring chance," Taylor said. "We're even more proud of the way they finish the game off. Now we have to get ready for San Bernardino. They are an extremely tough team."
