Vicchio led the Warriors to their second win in a week

TURLOCK — Lianne Vicchio had a career high of 17 kills as she led the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors volleyball team to win their second California Collegiate Athletic Association match this season Friday night.

The Warriors improve to 8-10 overall and 2-8 in the CCAA after defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills in three sets, 25-23, 25-12, 25-22. The Toros dropped to 1-16 and 1-9 in the CCAA. The two wins came within a week as the Warriors beat Humboldt State last Saturday in Arcata.

The Warriors went to their leading attacker often as Vicchio, who had two 16-kill matches this season, was 17 for 47 with eight errors against the Toros. The sophomore from Fair Oaks also had seven digs.

Also contributing for the Warriors was Janay Bankston with six kills. Warrior setter Jessica Lehner had 29 assists.  Amanda Pielstick had 15 digs and Megan Britton picked up 10 digs. The Stanislaus serving game outshined the Toros with seven aces for the team.  

After jumping out to an early lead in the first, the Warriors allowed Dominguez Hills to rally late and made it interesting. The Toros went on an 8-2 run to make it 24-23, but Melissa Bishop ended the game with a kill for the Warriors.

Cal State Stanislaus dominated the second set, using an 8-0 run for a 18-6 lead and never looked back. Vicchio had three of her kills during this stretch with Lauren Charles serving.

In the third, the Warriors again jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but CSUDH tied it at 10-10 and led at 13-10. This time it was Stanislaus rallying scoring 9 of the last 12 points for the win.

Samantha Maxwell led the Toros with of 19 kills and 11 digs.  Libero Hilary Hougardy led with 14 digs.  Ashley Davidson had four blocks to lead the Toros and setter Cassidy Mangum had 30 assists.

Cal State Stanislaus will next host the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles, Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start at Warrior Arena.
