ARCATA — In an attempt to come home for the holidays with a split, the Warriors' comeback attempt fell short Saturday against Notre Dame de Namur, as they fell to the Argonauts, 66-60, at the Humboldt State Classic.
Cal State Stanislaus'
Katie Busi led all scorers once again with 24 points.
Andreanna Marshall was the only other CSUS player in double figures, adding 17 on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Busi also topped her team in rebounding with six.
Adding to the Crusaders' offense were Katie Zasly, with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Laura Zasly, with 13 points, and Jane Ryabulkhina, with 10.
Notre Dame de Namur led by as many as 15 points in the first half, gaining a 35-20 lead when Ryabulkhina hit a jumper with 3 minutes, 25 seconds left until halftime. Four free throws and
Christin Gowan's three pointer helped the Warriors trim the lead to 37-27 at the break.
Starting the half with a 13-4 run, Cal State Stanislaus eventually pulled even with the Argonauts at 44-44 on Marshall's layup. But the Argonauts wouldn't let the Warriors gain a lead, and pushed their own advantage to as many as 11 points before CSUS came as close as three with 1:19 remaining.
The Warriors will take the rest of 2009 off and prepare to head back into conference play in 2010 when they hos Cal Poly Pomona on Sat., Jan. 2, at 2:30 p.m.
