CSUS volleyball splits on Saturday, road trip

ROHNERT PARK — For the second straight day, the Warriors volleyball team rebounded from a loss to a GNAC team to beat a Pacific West team at the Seawolf Spike tournament hosted by Sonoma State.

Central Washington's balanced attack was too strong in the morning match as Stanislaus dropped a 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 decision to the Wildcats. In the afternoon match, Lianne Vicchio had 16 kills and 11 digs to lead the Warriors over Dominican in a tight contest, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24, 26-24.

Vicchio also led the team with seven kills and seven digs in the first match on Saturday against CWU, a Great Northwest Athletic Conference team. Megan Britton had 15 digs while Melissa Bishop chipped in six kills against the Wildcats.

Against Dominican, Nicki Brown had 39 assists and nine digs with six kills for the Warriors. Andrea Fett (12 kills), Bishop (9 kills) and Amanda Pielstick (14 digs) all contributed to the victory.

The Warriors return from the trip with a 2-2 record to start the year. On Friday, they lost to Northwest Nazarene -- a GNAC school — before beating PacWest opponent Notre Dame de Namur.

The Warriors will be home for three matches in the upcoming week with contests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday's regular season home opener is at 6 p.m. against William Jessup.
