ROHNERT PARK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team gave up its first goal of the season and it resulted in its first setback of the year as host Sonoma State defeated the Warriors, 1-0, in the CCAA opener on Friday.

Sara Studer's goal in the 53rd minute accounted for the only scoring of the match as the Seawolves improved to 3-2-0, 1-0-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in front of 78 fans at Seawolf Soccer Field.

The Warriors (4-1-0, 0-1-0 CCA), ranked No. 6 in the West Region, gave up its first goal in five matches this season and suffered its first loss in 2009.

"We worked very hard for 90 minutes. You have to give Sonoma credit for making one more play than we did and finishing a great goal," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said.

Stanislaus was credited with just two shots in the contest, one in each half and came up empty. Starting goalkeeper Millie Brown picked up five saves while SSU took eight shots with six on frame.

Studer's header goal into the right side of the net came from a Libby Moyer cross from the left side at 52:46.

Entering Friday's contest, the Warriors had outscored their opponents 11-0 in four preseason contests and had six shutouts including two exhibition contests.

"It was a good battle. We are obviously disappointed to lose but we will bounce back," Bolton added.

The Warriors continue their road trip and will take on Humboldt State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Arcata.
