TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team got a much-needed conference win as the Warriors snapped a four-match skid by dominating Cal State East Bay, 1-0, on a hot Sunday at Warrior Stadium.
Jade Adamson finally broke through for the Warriors at 72:14 to give the Warriors their first California Collegiate Athletic Association win this season. Cal State Stanislaus improved to 5-4-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the CCAA while Cal State East Bay falls to 1-5-3, 0-3-2.
"
It is nice to get back to winning. We were very aggressive today offensively which is something we talked about after Friday," CSU Stanislaus head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "I'm proud of our effort and competitive spirit today against a tough defensive team."
Adamson picked up a loose ball in the attacking zone and created her own shot at the top of the box. Her kick sailed over East Bay keeper Nina Cefalo and just under the cross bar for the goal.
"
Jade hit a terrific shot! She is really a terrific finisher. It was good to see her put away the opportunity," Bolton said.
After going 4-0 in the preseason, the Warriors struggled against CCAA opponents offensively. But on Sunday, the Warriors dominated the Pioneers despite scoring just one goal. Stanislaus was on the offensive attack for most of the game, putting up 12 shots in each half and took eight corner kicks, including six in the opening 45 minutes. East Bay finished with nine shots.
East Bay managed to keep the game close mainly because of Pioneer goalie Cefalo who stabbed many Warrior opportunities to finish with nine saves.
"
There is no question we controlled possession in the game. It is one of our strengths and it was good to see the players determined to keep the ball," added Bolton.
Mille Brown started in goal for Stanislaus and had four saves. Freshman forward
Apryl Whitney also received credit for her play as she made her first collegiate start.
"
Apryl had a terrific game holding the ball, taking shots and creating opportunities for the team," Bolton said.
The Warriors will hit the road again next weekend as they travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Cal State L.A. on Sunday.
