TURLOCK – A strong second half performance propelled the Warriors, ranked #4 in West Region, to a dominating 4-0 win against the visiting Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles Friday afternoon at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors run their record to 6-1-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the CCAA North, while the Golden Eagles drop to 5-3-0 and 4-3-0.
The first half was evenly played as each team collected just one shot on goal and there were just 12 shots overall. However, the second period proved to be quite different as the Warriors got on the board just minutes into the half. Juan Alvarez took a cross from Kyle Cadigan and punched it in to give the Warriors the first of four goals at the 47:30 mark. It was the first goal of the season for Alvarez.
Once the first goal was on the board, the Warriors took control of the game. Arturo Pulido added to the offensive onslaught with his second goal of the season and just four minutes later Edwardo Meza knocked one in to make it a 3-0 Warrior lead. Jio Santana capped the scoring with a strike from the right side, notching his third goal of the year and giving the Warriors a 4-0 victory.
It was the third time this season the Warriors scored at least four goals and it was the fourth shutout for the Warrior defense. Javier Rosales has now allowed just four goals in seven matches.
The win ends a four game skid to the Golden Eagles and gives the Warriors just their third win against Cal State L.A. in CCAA play.
The Warriors now have a 5-1-1 record at Warrior Stadium this season and are now 13-2-2 since the stadium opened in 2009.
They will host Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday at 11:30 at Warrior Stadium.
