POMONA – The Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team extended their win streak to five after defeating Cal Poly Pomona 3 sets to 1 (25-18, 29-27, 19-25, 26-24).
The Warriors made history Friday night as they recorded their best start in program history with a record of 9-4 overall. The volleyball team improves to 6-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus had a tough game on their hands as they did not take any set with ease. The first set the Broncos were down by nine points before having an 11-5 run over the Warriors. Set two was more of a challenge, with the score being tied eleven times throughout the set. Cal Poly Pomona went from hitting a .109 in set two to a .476 in set three to take it from the Warriors. With the score shifting back and forth throughout set four, the Warriors were able to nab it right at the end with a final set score of 26-24.
Blocking was a crucial part to Stanislaus' win against the Broncos. The Warriors out-blocked Pomona 9-3. Gow and Andrea Fett led the warriors with 6 block assists each. Bishop had 3 blocks on the night.
There were five Broncos – Kristin McNeese, Taylor Kreutziger, Diana Lake, Karissa Lagmay, and Kelly Bonja – that recorded four kills each. Leeanne Currie led with 27 assists, while Bonja led with 13 digs.
The Warriors go on to play a tough game against #4 Cal State San Bernardino Saturday night. Game begins at 7 p.m.
