TURLOCK– The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team suffered their second loss of the season when they were defeated 2-1 by Cal State L.A. Friday night.
The Warriors were down 1-0 early in the game when Golden Eagles, Stacey Rodwell, took a corner kick and scored. In less than two minutes after the second half began, the Warriors were granted a penalty kick, which was successful off the foot of Marissa Dunaway. Cal State L.A. ended up scoring their final goal in the 73rd minute and just barely pulled out the win.
In the first half the Warriors had more opportunities to score, but CSULA's defense kept them from doing so. Bernadette Bettencourt recorded three shots, two of which were scoring opportunities, but were unsuccessful due to the Eagles goal keeper, Gabrielle Batmani.
The Warriors attempted to use their leading scorer, Karenee Demery, but Demery had little opportunity due to Cal State L.A.'s defense.
"I thought we battled hard, we created great chances for ourselves," say coach Gabe Bolton. "We need to finish our opportunities and now we need to regroup and get ready for our next game."
"We have to give credit to CSULA, they finished their opportunities, " added Bolton.
Ann Marie Tangorra scored the second goal for CSULA from a feed of teammate, Alex Conley.
The Warriors now drop 7-2-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while Cal State L.A. improves to 5-2-0 in the CCAA and 6-2-0 overall.
The Warriors will next host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 2 p.m.
