ROHNERT PARK – The #24 Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team had to settle for a tie against Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match.
The Warriors maintain their number one ranking in the North Division with an overall record of 9-2-1 and a CCAA record of 7-2-1. Sonoma State now has a record of 2-6-3, 1-6-3 in conference play.
"I was pleased with our determination and how we battled throughout the match. We had a difficult time getting rhythm offensively, but we certainly created enough chances to win the game," explained Coach Gabriel Bolton.
With little opportunities for scoring against the Seawolves defense, the Warriors had a total of 11 shots, with only 2 on-goal attempts. Midfielder Kim Dinardo and defender Emily Relles each had an on-goal attempt.
Warrior keeper Millie Brown dominated in the net with 10 saves on the day.
"Today's game was a very physical, grind it out, type of game. Sonoma State was very organized defensively and made things very difficult for us," added Coach Bolton.
Sonoma State out-shot the Warriors with 17 shots, with 11 scoring opportunities. Seawolves Allison Kern led Sonoma with 3 on-goal attempts. Taylor Edmonds, Jocelyn Puga, and Shayla Mellenthin each had 2 on-goal attempts.
The Warriors will be on the road next weekend playing Cal State East Bay on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and UC San Diego on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
