Warriors take season series against Wildcats

TURLOCK – The Cal State Stanislaus Warrior volleyball team defeated Chico State Wednesday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match for the second time this season.  The Warriors defeated the Wildcats 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 14-25, 25-15).

The Warriors improve to 10-7 overall, matching last years total wins, and 7-5 in the CCAA.  Chico State drops to 8-10 overall, 3-9 in the CCAA.

Lianne Vicchio led all players with a season high of 20 kills which also equals her career best.  She also had 20 kills on Oct. 31, 2009 against Cal State East Bay.  This was also Vicchio's 13th match with double digits in kills.  The Junior had 10 digs for her 10th double double of the season.

Jessica Lehner set a new career high with 47 assists.  She previously had two matches where she dished 41 assists in 2009.

It was a close match through games one and two.  In game three with Chico leading 12-10 the Wildcats scored 9 of the next 11 points to take control with a 21-11 lead and to ultimately win the set.  The Warriors and the Wildcats were tied five times early, but after 6-6 Stanislaus went on a 6-0 run to take a comfortable lead as Chico State was unable to rally.  The Warriors scored the final five points to win the match.

Three Warriors – Eva Chafeh, Andrea Fett, and Kaycee Gow – each had eight kills with Melissa Bishop adding 7 kills.  Bishop led with 5 blocks and Megan Britton had 19 digs to lead on defense.

Alex Shurtz led the Wildcats with 18 kills on the night.

The Warriors will host Cal State L.A. Friday night at 7 p.m.
