Warriors scoreless versus UC San Diego

LA JOLLA — Once again the Warriors out-shot their opponents, but UC San Diego scored on two of its chances as the visiting Cal State Stanislaus men's side dropped to the Tritons, 2-0, Sunday.

UC San Diego scored two first half goals and held off an attacking Stanislaus team in the second half for the win to improve to 6-4-4 overall and 6-3-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 7-4-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the CCAA. With four regular season matches remaining, the Warriors falls four points behind divisional leader Chico State. The Wildcats beat Cal State East Bay on Sunday.

In Sunday's match, UC San Diego found the back of the net early in the 12th minute with a goal by Shane Mitchell. He was assisted by David Bakal. Adam Zernik gave UCSD a 2-0 lead 22 minutes later on a 25-yard strike.

The Warriors put on the attack after the break, out-playing UCSD and out-shot the Tritons 8-3 with a 6-0 corner kick advantage. Stanislaus, however, was not able to find the back of the net. 

UCSD's goalkeeper Josh Cohen recorded five saves. Javier Rosales had three saves for the Warriors in goal.

Cal State Stanislaus will have three home matches remaining in the next two weeks, starting with a pair of home contests next weekend against Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.
