TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team improved to 10-4-1 overall as the Warriors defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-1, Friday night under wet conditions at Warrior Stadiuim.

The Warriors record 10 wins for the second consecutive season. It is also the program's third 10-win season in the last four years. Stanislaus improved to 8-4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association to remain four points behind divisional leader San Francisco State.

San Francisco State blanked Chico State 2-0 on Friday, setting up a pivotal match for both teams on Sunday when they meet here in Turlock at 11:30 a.m. The Gators are 10-2-3 and 9-2-2 in the CCAA.

Cal State Montere Bay suffered its seventh straight loss and fell to 2-13 overall and 1-12 in conference play. The Warriors continued their dominance over the Otters, upping their all-time series record to 16-1 with eight consecutive wins.

"We played some really great possession soccer all game. The goals we scored were just great attacking soccer," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "We were extremely aggressive the entire match. I love how we are coming together as a team. It is really fun to see."

Friday night, with a steady light rain in the first half, Stanislaus quickly got on the scoreboard with an early goal by Marissa Dunaway at 2:55. Alexia Poon and Karenee Demery assisted on the score.

However, Monterey Bay took just 34 seconds to respond with the equalizer by Sherene Thompson at 3:29.

Demery, the conference leading scorer, however, would give the Warriors a 2-1 lead in the 32rd minute. She took a midfield pass from Alisa Barlow and got by a defender for her 15th goal of the year. Demery is already the CSUS single season leader in both goals and points now with 36 as she also finished with two assists Friday night.

Demery's second assist, which was also helped by Barlow, came less than two minutes into the second half when they set up the score by Poon at 46:57.

The Stanislaus offense dominated play, out-shooting CSUMB, 27-7, including a 16-4 advantage in the opening half.

Monterey Bay goalkeeper Graciela Holguin was challenged and came up with a couple of nice saves in the first half before finishing the match with 12 saves.

Stanislaus goalkeeper Millie Brown improved to 9-3-1 with the win. She had five saves.

The Warriors stay unbeaten against CCAA North Division teams as they improved to 6-0-1 with three matches left. After Sunday's match versus San Francisco State, the Warriors face Chico State twice next week to end the regular season.
