Warriors split season with UC San Diego

 LA JOLLA– The Cal State Stanislaus split season with UC San Diego after losing Friday night in four sets (20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25).

The Warriors fall to 8-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and 11-11 overall.

Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors with 14 kills followed by Eva Chafeh with 11 kills.  Melissa Bishop recorded 10 kills with a hitting percentage of .318 and Kaycee Gow had nine kills with only two errors and a hitting percentage of .500.

UC San Diego started off the match strong against the Warriors.  Stanislaus was unable to gain lead over the Tritons in the first two sets, but they battled hard to set point in both.  Warriors took set three but were unable to sustain the momentum to take set four.

Megan Britton led Cal State Stanislaus with 17 digs.  Vicchio had 14 digs and Chafeh had 10 digs on the night.  

The Warriors serving gave them the edge especially in set three as they out-served the Tritons 7-3 in service aces.  Bishop and Vicchio each had 2 service aces.  Three Warriors–Chafeh, Britton, and Jessica Lehner– each contributed with a service ace.  

Lehner also had a high of 42 assists.

Roxanne Brunsting led UC San Diego with 14 kills.  Hillary Williamson had 13 kills and Katie Condon recorded 12 kills .  Libero Janessa Werhane led the game with 24 digs.

The Warriors look to beat Cal State East Bay for the second time this season Saturday night in Hayward.
