TURLOCK — Needing a win tonight to stay in the race for a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association conference tournament, the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team came up short in losing to Sonoma State, 64-56, on senior night.

Senior Chad Johnson had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Stanislaus, but the Warriors dropped to 10-15 overall and 6-14 in the CCAA. With the loss, the Warriors will not be able to catch up to teams for at least eighth place to qualify for the postseason tournament.

Sonoma State, on the other hand, are now tied for seventh with Cal State L.A. at 9-11 in conference. The Seawolves were led by Patrick Scott with 19 points while Steven Pratt scored 14.

Senior Jordan Stokes had 10 points and seven rebounds and senior Matt Ibewiro had six rebounds and six blocked-shots in his final home game. As a team, the Warriors had 10 blocked-shots and out-rebounded SSU, 37-30.

Marcus Lever contributed by dishing out seven assists while Julian Wiliams scored 12 off the bench -- 8 of them came in the first half.

The Seawolves pull ahead late in the opening half, using a 12-4 run to build a 13-point lead, 35-22, with 1:37 to go. The lead was their biggest of the night, a number SSU matched in the second half.

After the Warriors pulled within three on a layup by Dwight Jones at 11:30 in the second half to make it 42-39, Sonoma State would run ahead once again, scoring eight unanswered points to lead by 11. A couple of minutes later, SSU would lead by 13 again after a pair of Pratt free throws with less than seven minutes left to play.

Stanislaus would come within five points with 2:01 to play on a Julian Williams jumper but that was as close as the Warriors could get.

Cal State Stanislaus finishes its season on the road with games at Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills next Thursday and Friday.
