SAN FRANCISCO —
Karenee Demery scored two more goals, including a golden score in overtime as the Warriors' dominance over rival San Francisco State continues. Friday the Warriors beat the Gators, 2-1, in overtime to start CCAA play.
Demery tied the game in the second half, then scored the game-winner just 37 seconds into overtime as the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Warriors' undefeated streak against San Francisco State is now at 15 matches. Stanislaus has posted four straight wins over the Gators and are 11-0-4 since the start of the 2001 season.
Myriah Johnson gave San Francisco State a 1-0 lead with a header goal at the 14:20 mark. The goal was just the first goal allowed by the Warriors this season.
In the second half, the Stanislaus offense were on the attack, out-shooting SFSU 7-4, and it paid off.
"Karenee had a brilliant game and finished two fantastic goals," CSUS head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "
Millie Brown made a tremendous save in the first half to keep the game at 1-0. That's what we needed to get back in the game."
Demery scored the equalizer in the 61st minute after collecting her own rebound on her first breakaway try. The golden goal was set up by
Bernie Bettencourt's cross that setup a breakaway by the speedy Demery for the winner.
Friday's win was the Warriors' first conference opener win — home or away — since 2006.
"It's great to start conference with a win. SF State is a tough place to play because their field is so slow and they play a very direct style," Bolton said. "I'm proud of the toughness we showed. It took a lot of heart and determination to come from behind."
Demery, who scored twice last week in two Stanislaus wins, now has four goals in three games.
Cal State Stanislaus travels to take on Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday with a kickoff time of 11:30 a.m.
