Warriors fall to Seawolves in five

 TURLOCK– Cal State Stanislaus was defeated by Sonoma State in five sets (21-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-26, 11-15) on Friday night in their first home California Collegiate Athletic Association Match.

Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors with 16 kills.  The Warriors fall to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA.  

The Warriors played hard the first set, but were unable to pull out the win.  In set two the Seawolves had all of the momentum in their direction and defeated the Warriors quickly.  After being down two sets to none, the Warriors made an exciting comeback and lived to see set four after squeaking out a 25-23 win in set three.  Cal State Stanislaus had set four in the palm of their hands and never allowed Sonoma to catch up.  Sonoma State regained their composure in the fifth to take an early lead, but the Warriors fought till the end, with an 8-3 run before dropping 11-15.

Vicchio also recorded 12 digs and 3 service aces on the night.  Kaycee Gow and Eva Chafeh each recorded 9 kills on the night.  Melissa Bishop contributed offensively with 7 kills.  Nicki Brown had another big night with 42 assists.  

Once again the Warriors out-blocked their opponent recording 8 team blocks, while the Seawolves recorded 5 team blocks.  Bishop led with five blocks.  Fett and Gow each recorded three piece.  

Allyson Sather led the Seawolves with 14 kills, followed by Nicole Gragnola with 10 kills.  Taylor Krenwinkel led defensively with 20 digs and setter Lindsay Lytle led with 31 assists.  The Seawolves improve to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA.

The Warriors will play at 7 p.m. Saturday night at home against Humboldt State
