Eva Chafeh had a tremendous debut. The redshirt freshman recorded a double-double to lead the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Grand Canyon to start the season on Friday.
The win, 26-24, 17-25, 25-16, 27-25, is the first match of the Seawolf Spike Classic at Sonoma State. Both teams were pretty evenly matched pushing the final set point in set one to 26 and in set two to 27. The Warriors stole game two after having a 10-3 run to bring the score to 20-11.
Chafeh recorded 17 kills and 19 digs to lead the Warriors.
Megan Britton had 24 digs and
Nicki Brown dished 39 assists with 14 digs.
Lianne Vicchio chipped in 12 kills.
In the Warriors afternoon match they were defeated by Seattle Pacific, 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 26-24).
Against the Warriors, Chafeh and
Jennifer Marsh led with 13 kills a piece. Brown led with 16 digs and added 32 assists to her day's total of 71. Britton topped her performance from earlier in the day by recording 31 digs against the Falcons.
Melissa Bishop shined all the way around the court recording 4 kills, 4 Blocks and 4 service aces. Also recording aces against SPU were Britton, Vicchio, and Chafeh.
Chafeh finished her first day of collegiate volleyball with 30 kills and 31 digs in two matches. Britton totaled 55 digs on the day.
The Warriors (1-1) will face Dominican and BYU Hawaii on Saturday to conclude play at the Seawolf Spike.
