TURLOCK – With a
tenacious team effort the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team won its fourth consecutive conference match with a 3-1 win (25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22) over #21 UC San Diego Saturday night at Warrior Arena.
The four-match winning streak marks the first time in history the Warriors accomplished that feat since joining the California Collegiate Athletic Association in 1998. The Warriors complete a perfect 3-0 week to improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA.
The 8-4 record ties the best start in program history. The 2002 team also started 8-4 en route to set a school record of 19 wins overall.
UC San Diego, one of top programs in the region, falls to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA.
Lianne Vicchio led the balanced offense with 12 kills.
Melissa Bishop had nine kills and three Warriors –
Eva Chafeh,
Andrea Fett and
Kaycee Gow – had 8 kills a piece.

The Warriors were able to come out on top against a strong Triton defense of 79 digs, led by libero Janessa Werhane with 25 digs. The Warriors also played solid defense with 18 digs from
Megan Britton and 12 digs from
Sarah Blume. Bishop recorded 7 total blocks with 3 solos and Gow had 5 block assists.
Julia Freidenberg and Sally Yingst each had 10 kills for UCSD. Freidenberg also led her team with 6 blocks followed by Audrey Green with 5 blocks.
The Warriors go on the road next weekend to play Cal Poly Pomona Friday night and #5 Cal State San Bernardino Saturday Night. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
